A Happy and Blessed Christmas to You All

The Bartlett family wish all our family and friends the special blessings that this time of year affords. We sincerely hope that you will read this blog when preparations have been made for the big celebration and you will be able to enjoy scrolling through our annual news.

As always, as we prepare it we realise how fortunate we are to have such wonderful family and friends. You will see that the majority of photographs are of people and not places. It is you who make our lives so rich and this is our main thanks this year.

Tom has found time to run quite a few times this year and despite threatening to cut back manages to keep treading the pavements; writes and paints whenever opportunity affords and has indulged his hobby as family taxi service with great frequency! He has been through a transfer of his company to a charity provider and is thankful for continuity of employment.

Linda snatched as many moments to quilt as possible and has completed the star quilt after two years. She is loving ink pencils onto fabric and has played with these too. She has taken up Tai Chi and swims regularly before work. Lots to look forward to there. Linda spent a considerable time of her working year in a school for children with behaviour difficulties and alongside now knowing how to swear profusely she learned to respect and care deeply for the children's futures.

Samuel is in his second year at the University of Birmingham studying History and Political Science and is highly interested in the Middle East. He is organising events for the university Aussie rules team he plays on and a whole lot more. He is planning a year studying abroad next year and then will return to Birmingham for his final year.

Eleanor is in her final year at school and has just sent her UCAS application off for university entry next year. She also works in Sports Direct. It is a busy and demanding year for her, but she is forging ahead to the future.

Mollydog is getting a little creaky and deaf, but she is a dear and much loved by all; which we (Linda) hesitate to say for Peaches the corn snake. However, Linda has been known to talk to her!

So have yourself a Merry Little Christmas. We will be focusing ours on being thankful for the real reason and our church events are central. Today we will be rehearsing for the Nine Lessons and Carols at St. Faiths, where Tom and Linda are in the choir and Intelligence tell us that Santa will be driving through the village on his sleigh tonight. On Monday we will join our village singing carols outside the Manor, drinking mulled wine and eating mince pies; and singing in the candlelit midnight carol service on Christmas Eve is the real start of Christmas for us.

With love from Tom, Linda, Samuel and Eleanor xxxx

November 2014

A month where we give thanks for our many blessings  - Thanksgiving

This year Tom was able to enjoy two Thanksgivings, travelling to New England to be with his family on the day and back on the Saturday morning for the UK version.

Preparation for the festivities begins ...

This year we had two tables, with the younger ones commanding the back living room.

The guests bought delicious puddings including pumpkin and pecan pie!

October 2014

A month of trips in the camper van

We dropped Samuel off at university in Birmingham and then sneaked an overnight on the edge of the Cotswolds. We will spare you Linda's endless photos of sheep!

Then came a second trip to Moreton-in-the-Marsh and lovely autumn walks. Here is the church where one of the vicars who married us leads. It was good to see Steve Wookey.

And Linda snatched more time in her beloved Norfolk ...

September 2014

This was the month of the Diamond Anniversary of Linda's parents Brenda and Don.

Our British family is smaller than our American one. Here is Linda's brother Richard, sister-in-law Tonia and niece Freya.

A happy, but emotional time.

August - USA

Home to America, where we fit a year into 3 weeks!

It is most important to be with our family and we all got together, except Isaac appeared at the end of our stay! Thank you Kathy Lena for masterfully pasting him in. Here we are on the banking in front of the houses.

A time for the cousins to get together again. Lee and Eleanor.

Sister Molly with her beautiful daughters. It was so good to see Lily after many years.

Tom with his sisters Mary and Molly, on top of Molly and Rob's house.

Sam took us on a tram  trip around Plymouth, which was really interesting

 On our anniversary meal evening

Cousin Lee and Samuel enjoy fishing at Greg and Mary's house

Then Isaac joined us!

Tom's cousins are important too. Here is Jonathon up from the deep South!

Charlie and Lydia children of Rob and Anne below (Linda's adopted cousin!)

Key points in the itinerary:

The Judd's visit always bring joy.

The Triathalon weekend is always eagerly awaited.  Kathy and Mark stayed over.

In comes Eleanor ...

A trip to Martha's Vineyard was a gift from Grandma. Shh don't mention the boys fishing trip where the catch eluded them!

Fun out on the boat with Peter and Melissa. Ooh look at Linda's worried face as Peter was swimming with her camera! The great white shark had not been sighted then!

No trip would be complete without a good day with all of our friends and children. They have grown up meeting each visit. We miss them when we are home in the UK.

The Ragans couldn't get to us so we went to see them in Lexington and Linda visited Louisa May Alcott's house as a real treat.

The last day was the Antiquarian Fayre and it was fun making and selling Tussie Mussies, touted by a Brit!
